Stand Out

What is your niche?

One of the first questions agencies are asked is, "What kind of advertising do you do?"

Wesley Day specializes in "high-involvement" products and services – those things you think about before buying.

For consumers, that could mean anything from the dessert for a dinner party to a new car or home.

For businesses, high-involvement items are those which significantly affect the bottom line. For example, ordering a box of manila folders may be routine, but great care will be taken when deciding how to network 40 additional computers.

High involvement is not necessarily related to cost. For example, a holiday shopper may put considerable thought into each and every gift regardless of the price. What's more, a product may be both low- and high-involvement, depending on the market. For example, a handy homeowner may simply buy any old paint brush for a weekend project. A professional contractor will evaluate brush quality and value before buying.

Sometimes people ask, "What's your specialty – TV, print, Internet?"

This question assumes that expertise is media driven. Marketing high-involvement products is not about a specific production tool or media choice. Rather, it is about understanding how to best impact the sales process regardless of the tool. As a result, we're proficient in all media.

Effective marketing is no accident, nor is it easy.
  •  Good execution hinges upon a good creative approach.
  •  A good creative approach hinges upon a good strategy.
  •  A good strategy hinges upon good information.
  •  Good information hinges upon the people you ultimately want to motivate.

Our job as your agency is to use our knowledge, experience, and connections to guide you through this process while avoiding wasted time and money.

We promise to always:
  •  Tell you what we think.
  •  Involve top professionals each step of the way when working on your account.
  •  Work cooperatively with your appropriate in-house capabilities.

Our style is to bring our specialized expertise to the table and work with you as part of the team, rather than working in isolation then surprising you (either pleasantly or otherwise).

History of
Wesley Day

Wesley Day – the person

Our founder, Wesley Day, is regarded as an advertising pioneer in Iowa. He moved to Des Moines in the early 1940s to write for the Des Moines Register and Tribune but soon became interested in advertising and public relations. By 1949 he had founded his own firm.

Most of the advertising in that era involved finding something unique about the client or product and making an ad about that difference. Day's curiosity as a reporter led him to focus on the prospect: how they used the product or service, and what impact it had for them. He then developed advertising campaigns based on the prospect's interest long before this was an accepted advertising practice.

He also recognized the importance of a positive public image and began to support advertising with public relations. Again, with time, the impact of branding has become widely understood and is today a cornerstone in marketing communications.
